Record symptoms, match disease templates and keep the health trail.
A structured sheep health workflow for suspected disease cases, diagnosis status, vet priority, notifiable hints and treatment history.
The Diagnostics Panel in HerdDeck Shepherd is a sheep disease and health decision-support workflow. It is not the app saying “the animal definitely has this disease.” It is a structured way to capture what was seen, choose the closest disease template, save the diagnosis status and keep that information attached to the animal.
The panel uses the veterinary knowledge base, disease templates and symptom vocabulary so health records are not reduced to scattered free text. A farmer can record symptoms, suspected disease, diagnosis status, vet priority, notifiable hints and treatment context in a way that can still be reviewed later.
Why it matters
When a lamb has diarrhea, a ewe is weak, or a respiratory problem appears in the flock, the first record is often messy: a note, a medicine name, a date and a memory. That makes follow-up hard. The diagnosis workflow gives the case a shape before the details disappear.
It helps the farm see which animal was affected, which symptoms were observed, which disease template was selected, how confident the diagnosis was, whether the case needs veterinary attention, and how the event appears later in the animal’s medical history.
What the panel supports
Designed for real flock work
The aim is not to turn the farmer into a veterinarian. The aim is to make the first health record cleaner, safer and easier to follow. HerdDeck can help organize the case, but veterinary judgement still matters for diagnosis, treatment choice, withdrawal periods and emergency decisions.
Because the diagnosis information is stored with the animal card, it can be reviewed alongside weight history, treatments, costs and later outcomes. That makes repeated cases, weak animals and flock-level health patterns easier to notice.
From symptoms to a usable medical event
A typical workflow starts with observed symptoms, then a disease template search, diagnosis status, veterinary priority and optional medicine or treatment entry. The saved record can then show the selected disease, symptom names, priority and notifiable hint in the animal’s medical history.

Example workflow
Open the animal’s health entry, choose the observed symptoms, search the disease templates, set diagnosis status and vet priority, then save the medical event so the case appears clearly in the animal history.
Important safety note
The diagnosis panel is recordkeeping and decision support. It does not replace a veterinarian, local disease reporting rules, prescription rules, treatment supervision or withdrawal-period advice.
